What’s in a Make-up Artist’s Kit?

What’s in my Kit?

Ever wondered which products  professional Make-up Artists use on clients?

This is something that I get asked by a lot of people. Many make-up artists work for Cosmetic companies and use only their products. Following a client make-over, they often try to sell the products they’ve used as they’re on commission.

If you’ve read my ‘About Me’ page, you’ll know that I carry a range of products which I chose because they work, are long-lasting and are suitable for photography.

I tend to use middle to high-end high-street and industry products because quality is important. I tend not to use the cheapest ranges, as these are designed for fun, and won’t last or withstand the rigours of the day (but are great fun if you want lots of colour for yourself for a night out!).

So, what’s in my kit?

The brands I favour (amongst others) are:

L’Oreal
Mac (great for lipstick)
Bobbi Brown
Virgin Vie
Clinique
Benefit
Chanel
Estee Lauder
Max Factor
Yves Saint Laurent
Borgeois
Maybelline (best for mascara and lip stain)
Charles Fox
Grimas
Warpaint
Boots Natural Collection (good light bases and powder)

The trick is to go for colours that make your skin glow and your eyes, lips and cheeks ‘pop’. Products need to last all day if you want them to, but be off in five minutes with a soapy facial cleanser (clinique is great). It doesn’t matter which brand the products are from, they just have to WORK!
